None of us are only one thing. I am a mother, daughter, friend, wife, health care advocate, teacher, learner, gardener, linguist, knitter, cook, singer, mental health carer, owner/builder, volunteer, an avid reader and more!
I currently chair both the Fremantle College P&C and Madjitil Moorna Choir. I have held roles of Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President of boards and committees for many years, including at Winterfold Primary School P&C and WA School Canteen Association (now Foodcore). I take representation seriously and have training in board governance and ethics so as to fulfil my roles properly.
I'm often the first to raise my hand to volunteer and have enjoyed volunteering with Fremantle PCYC, Awesome Arts Festival for Bright Young Things, Reconciliation WA, Danjoo Koorliny, Yes 23, WA Council of State School Associations and the World Flying Disc Federation World Championships.
Mark Twain's famous quote that "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness...." is a favourite of mine. The experience of diverse cultures, places and experiences has shaped me.
I grew up in the South-West and moved to Perth for university. I studied International Business and Japanese at Murdoch University before travelling to the UK, Europe and the USA. I met my now husband in Massachusetts teaching forest ecology to New York City students at summer camp. After two years we travelled to Europe and worked on an agriturismo (farm stay, but think big) outside of Sienna. My six months there planning and planting the vegetable garden to feed up to 40 people per night deepened my love of Italian, gardening and food. Returning to Perth I enrolled at UWA to study Italian, majoring in Linguistics. Part of my course entailed a 6 month work placement with the Office of Multicultural Interests researching policy and another 8 months exchange to the University of Bologna. I have since taught Italian in primary schools, worked as a travel agent, managed and mentored school canteens and worked in medical administration.
